Make The Cloud Green

CONCEPT

The “Make The Cloud Green” project arose from our surveys in the field of energy efficiency of data centers, and of the benefits of virtualization, and consequently of cloud computing services. We proposed it to the board of EuroCloud, held in Turin in TopIX, and it was conceived as a response to a Greenpeace report  (Make IT Green – Cloud Computing and its contribution to Climate Change)

ACTIVITIES

The project started with an event we proposed and organized in association with EuroCloud Italy, the department of Computer Science and Systems of the University of Naples and AWS User Group Naples.

The event was a sort of round table, attended by VMware, SGI, Emerson, APC and WWF. You can enjoy a summary of the research paper presented at the blog post below.

OBJECTIVE

We are planning to do a research, together with the University, in order to produce an official document whose main aims will be: to correct the main points of the survey by GreenPeace; to analyze the approaches of optimization of datacenters of Cloud Providers; to study the sustainability of the levels of IaaS, PaaS and SaaS and to support the ecological sustainability of the whole chain of this now widespread and confusing concept of Cloud Computing.
